Alessandro Ortu is a Doctoral Candidate, DC06, for MSCA SMARTTEST at the Department of Electrical Engineering from the KU Leuven . He will carry out research on Integrated Communication and Sensing for Remote Healthcare. The objective is to investigate the use of mmWave and sub-6GHz MIMO communication systems, with compliment of RIS in obtaining sufficient vital sign information regardless of target orientation/ghost dynamics, to research the effect of stochastic patient movements on the accuracy of the vital signal characteristics measured and the benefit of having a supplementary radar to estimate target orientation. The Doctoral Candidate is expected to develop a documented design of multi-band multi-modal vital sign estimation pipeline with resource requirement guideline
Alessandro obtained his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Cagliari, Italy, in 2021. He completed his master’s degree in biomedical engineering, with a specialization in Electronics, at Politecnico di Milano in 2024. Prior to completing his master’s degree, he conducted his thesis research at TU Delft in the Netherlands. Since November 2024, he has been pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering at KU Leuven.
