Bio DC03

Piyush Navade is Doctoral Candidate, DC03, for MSCA SMARTTEST at the Radio Systems research group of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Twente. He will carry out research on privacy-preserving indoor health and safety monitoring using Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC). The main objective of the research is to explore how radio signals can unobtrusively sense human presence, activity, and subtle motion linked to vital signs, like breathing rate, enabling applications such as fall detection for older adults, remote wellbeing monitoring in hospitals and eldercare facilities, and more robust operation in emergencies where cameras can fail due to poor visibility or occlusions.

The expected results include new formulations and signal-processing methods for distributed mmWave MIMO radar + cellular coexistence, focusing on synchronization and effective interference cancellation with limited on-device computing. The project will also deliver practical guidelines for communications and radar codesign, helping make real-world ISAC deployments more realistic.

Piyush holds a B.Sc. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, India and an M.Sc. in Information and Communication Technology from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany. Outside academics, he has served on the board of BEST Erlangen e.V. (Board of European Students of Technology) as treasurer and later an advisory board member.
