Introducing our Doctoral Candidates
Today - DC09 - Chiara Pollastrini - VSB
What is your research about?
My research focuses on remote monitoring of circadian rhythms and daily activities in people with pathologies, using advanced contactless radar technology. Currently, I am investigating whether it is possible to study pathologies like Parkinson's or Alzheimer's using radar technology.
Why is this research needed?
It addresses the urgent need for non-invasive health monitoring solutions for the aging population and people living with chronic conditions (such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's). By detecting subtle changes in daily rhythms early, we can intervene sooner and support independent living (Ambient Assisted Living).
Where does your research takes place?
My research take place at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (Ostrava, Czech Republic), utilizing the HealthLab smart home environment. Then I’ll move my research to KU Leuven (Belgium) to study RIS technology and vital signs, and to Remcom (USA) for electromagnetic simulation.
Who will benefit from this research?
The primary beneficiaries are elderly individuals and adults living alone with chronic diseases. Ultimately, this technology aims to assist clinicians, caregivers, and families by providing continuous, stress-free health assessments.
When did your project start and when will it finish?
The project started in October 2025 and is expected to finish in October 2028.
