Introducing our Doctoral Candidates

Today - DC02 - Rudranil Chattopadhyay - KUL

What is your research about?

My research deals with utilizing cellular communication systems for Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), where I will implement techniques to extract information about desired targets from the Channel State Information of the Electromagnetic waves. Additionally, I will be using Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) to utilize multipath and improve communication and sensing accuracy.

Why is this research needed?

This research supports the validation of the idea that cellular networks can be used to perform both communication and sensing, which in turn benefits management and performance of the cellular networks. Particularly within SMARTTEST, the aim is to utilize this research for remote healthcare.

Where does your research takes place?

I am being hosted by the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT) at KU Leuven, with secondments at Consiglio Nazionale delle Recherche (CNR), Italy and (tentatively) Sentigrate, Belgium.

Who will benefit from this research?

This research has the potential to impact several areas like Healthcare, Industries, Automotives, Aviation, etc.  SMARTTEST aims to make remote healthcare feasible. This research impacts all entities involved, ranging from patients to research groups!

When did your project start and when will it finish?

I started in August 2025, and am expected to finish in July 2028.
