Introducing our Doctoral Candidates

Today - DC01 - Yang Chen - ADANT

The 5 W’s of our research:

What is your research about?

My research focuses on a beam-reconfigurable architecture that integrates Wi-Fi sensing and 5G ISAC technologies. By leveraging the ubiquitous coverage of WLAN with the high resolution of 5G FR2/FR3, we achieve multi-band multi-beam synergistic sensing.

Why is this research needed?

Single-technology solutions face inherent limitations due to hardware impairments and high-frequency overhead. By optimizing the ubiquitous sensing capabilities of Wi-Fi in parallel with the high-precision capabilities of 5G ISAC, we can maintain peak performance while minimizing beam management overhead, even in the presence of hardware impairments. This allows ISAC capabilities to be easily integrated into home devices.

Where does your research takes place?

My home location is at Adant, a provider of advanced solutions for communication devices in Legnaro, Italy, and cooperate with Politecnico di Milano. I will be seconded to KU Leuven to study the nonlinear characteristics of hardware, and to Sentigrate to study data-related issues.

Who will benefit from this research?

This research benefits end-users by enabling high-privacy, high-precision ambient sensing. It can be used in smart factories and hospitals for health and security. It also benefits network providers and device manufacturers by reducing beam management overhead and hardware costs, allowing for the seamless integration of ISAC into consumer-grade hardware.

When did your project start and when will it finish?

It start at Januari 2026, and will finish at Januari 2029.
